The Chariot
7
will · direction · disciplined force · protection
“I yoke two waters to my will, and cross the line.”
Opposed forces gathered under one will — progress is no longer a matter of force but of direction. A decision at last puts on the body by which it can reach a far place.

The soul card of 16
The Chariot is the soul card of one pair: 16/7, with The Tower in front. The Tower is the lightning strike, the sudden collapse of a structure that was not as solid as it looked. Underneath it, The Chariot is the ability to gather oneself and choose a direction after the shock. A 16/7 person tends to meet upheaval and then steer through it.
If your number is 7, the 16/7 page is a useful counterpoint. It shows what The Chariot looks like when control is not available, and when the task is to find a direction among the ruins rather than to keep everything from falling.
Living with a doubled Chariot
The Chariot's shadow is control for its own sake: forcing the outcome, refusing to stop, treating every pause as defeat, armoring up so completely that nothing touches you. A doubled Chariot benefits from asking, now and then, where it is actually going and who chose the destination. Stillness is not the opposite of this card; it is often where the driver decides.
The Chariot as a year card
The Chariot as a year card puts direction and drive at the centre of your reflection. The charioteer holds two different forces in one line of travel, so the theme is less about speed than about steering: what you are moving towards, and how you keep competing pulls inside you heading the same way.
It can be a useful card for a year you mean to give to one aim. Notice where you are pulling in two directions at once, and where determination has hardened into pushing. Momentum is worth having when you know where it is taking you.
Which birthdays get it as a year card
Add your birth month and day to the year, then reduce as for the Personality card. It gives the year a theme to reflect on; it does not say what the year will bring.

- Which two pulls inside me am I holding together, and what does it cost to hold them?
- Where would loosening my grip make the movement easier rather than harder?
